Together for Sustainability | TESTEX Joins ZDHC!

AFC members TESTEX are excited to announce that they have joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC), Roadmap to Zero Programme...

TESTEX, is a globally operating, independent Swiss testing and certification organisation, with focus on textile and leather testing. Actively working toward a more sustainable industry, the organisation has recently joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Roadmap to Zero Programme

The foundation’s goal is to eliminate the use of priority hazardous chemicals in textile, leather and footwear production. Together in their collaboration, both TESTEX and ZHDC lead the industry in environmental responsibility and to establish and implement supply chain improvements through inputs, processes and end-of-pipe controls.

“As an independent testing and certification institute for textile and leather goods we operate at the gateway between brands and their manufacturers. With the admission to the ZDHC programme we aim to act as link between our customers and the programme’s signatory brands, thereby creating added-value.” - Marc Sidler from TESTEX about the motives for joining ZDHC.

TESTEX sees sustainability as being one of the most important topics of today and corporate responsibility as an essential contribution to a healthy environment for all of society. TEXTEX’s affiliation with ZDHC is another step in their road to sustainability, accompanying their certification portfolio. ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX®, for example, verifies chemicals for sustainable textile and leather production.

ZDHC & The Roadmap to Zero Programme

Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC), operates with the vision for the widespread implementation of sustainable chemistry and best practices in the textile industry to protect consumers, workers and the natural environment.

Their mission? To advance towards zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in our supply chain and act to improve the environment and people’s well being. In doing so, ZDHC have three key goals;

  1. Eliminate or substitute priority hazardous chemicals in products and their manufacture
  2. Implement a transparent screening process to promote safer chemistry
  3. Implement common tools, best practices and training that advance chemical stewardship

The ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme focusses on the core elements of eliminating the use of priority hazardous chemical substances. The Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) stands at the centre of the programme, indicating hazardous chemicals whose usage is either prohibited or strictly limited to certain values. The chemical module 'ZDHC Gateway' ensures the conformity with their MRSL for the textile production.
