Outland Denim | The Social Denim
From honing their craft with pedal press sewing machines and hot-coal irons in remote Cambodian villages, through to establishing their own production facility to train and employ women rescued from, and vulnerable to, human trafficking and sexual violence. Outland Denim carries a unique story in each and every pair of jeans, crafted with quality that is a testament to the dedicated skills acquisition and restored dignity of their makers.
DENIM & SOCIAL CHANGE.
Outland Denim's Founder James Bartle’s by chance encounter with an anti-trafficking group took him to Asia where he saw how human traffickers prey on defenceless young girls, and how important it was for the too few rescued girls to have a second chance at a secure, and safe future.
The brand has since gone on to establish it's own production facility in Cambodia, where they train and employ women rescued from, and vulnerable to, human trafficking and sexual violence. It is here that each and every piece is crafted, with an attention to quality and detail that stands a testament to the dedicated skills acquisition and restored dignity of their makers.
Every person that buys Outland Denim, or works with the brand, is impacted. "Working with Outland Denim gives me a chance to align so many important values... Women, independence, and sustainability" says their SS18 campaign model Montana Lower.
In an era of greater corporate and social responsibility, those who wear Outland Denim wear it with conviction. They are educated, culturally aware and look for an authority voice and force for good in a world where objective ‘truth’ has become increasingly less attainable.
"I've always lived in jeans. If you were going to produce anything, why wouldn't you produce the most staple part of a person's wardrobe? Jeans aren't a throw-away item, but something you keep for years," says Bartle.
This philosophy of buying less, but choosing well, carries through to the Outland Denim range. Think classic wardrobe staples with subtle modern touches, an essential black and blue colour palette featuring clean cuts, modern distresses and subtle on-trend details.
Outland Denim makes no compromise for social responsibility, and their full control over product from start to finish ensures for an integrity like no other in the fashion frontier. From owning their own production house, personally sourcing raw materials, through to being deeply invested in the wellbeing of each of their seamstresses, Outland Denim has created a luxurious brand with decisive environmental credentials and a passion for social change.
Outland Denim will be distributed nationwide from March 2018, with International Fashion Group excited to announce they are the exclusive Australian and New Zealand distributor. Click the link below to find out more!
